On March 29th, the Atlantic Supply store in Montgomery, AL hosted Mr. David Roberts with Baroid IDP for a four-hour “mini” mud school.
David is a senior field representative for Baroid IDP where his primary focus is advising drillers and retailers on product selection, dosage, and mixing of drilling fluids. David supports Baroid IDP clients in the field and classroom at no charge. Baroid IDP employs a large network of field support personnel that are available to Baroid IDP product users around the world.
The primary focus of this mud school was product used in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and it was well attended. David discussed the basics of bentonite as well as the polymer additives that many HDD contractors rely on due to the challenging ground conditions they work with. David covered polymers used for drilling in problematic ground conditions such as sticky and swelling clays (PHPA’s), coarse sands (PAC’s), and polymers used to enhance the carrying capacity of the base fluid (bio-polymers). Atlantic Supply is an authorized distributor for Baroid IDP and stocks a variety of bentonite and polymers for many types of drilling.
Most of the Atlantic Supply managers and outside salespersons have attended Baroid IDP Mud Schools at their training facility in Houston, TX. These five-day schools are held during January and February each year and are always full within weeks of the schedule release each previous November. The schools are NOT one size fits all as each person can select classes based on the type of work they perform such as HDD, Water Well, and Foundation/Drilled Shaft and some classes are held in Spanish as well. These classes are also no-charge for Baroid IDP customers, minus airfare and lodging.
The staff at Atlantic Supply would like to thank David and Baroid IDP for their continued support.
