Sand Cone Density Set, 6½” The Sand Cone Density test is an inexpensive method of determining in-place density of soils having maximum particle sizes up to 2″ (51mm) using test hole volumes of approximately 0.1 cubic feet (2.8L). HM100 Sand Cone Density Apparatus is a 1 gallon (3.8L) threaded plastic jug with detachable brass double cone fitting. The brass cone is threaded on one end, flanged to 6½” (165mm) on the other, with a brass cylindrical valve of ½” (12.7mm) dia. orifice between ends.  Valve has stops to prevent rotating past completely open or closed positions.  

Replacement plastic jug is available as HM102. The HM104 Density Plate is 12″ x 12″ (305 x 305mm) aluminum alloy with ½” (12.7mm) high edge walls to contain soil sample that is dug using 6½” (165mm) center hole of plate as a guide. After test hole is prepared, flange of cone fits plate opening for filling hole with special Density Sand. The HM106 Density Sand is clean, dry, uniform, uncemented, durable, and free-flowing. Meets ASTM D 1556 and AASHTO T 191.  Few particles pass No. 200 (75µ m) or are retained on No. 10 (2mm) sieves.  Bulk density varies less than 1%. 50lb (22.7kg) packing bag is heavy and reinforced.
