Penetrometer, Pocket Penetrometer for Soils

SKU: HM500

$58.95

Pocket Penetrometer, used to determine consistency and approximate unconfined compressive strength of soils. Lightweight direct reading penetrometer gives instant information for classification of cohesive soils on site or in the lab. Use is required by OSHA for trenching and excavation inspection. The spring-operated device has a 1/4 inch (6.4mm) diameter loading piston that is pushed into the soil up to a calibration groove machined on the piston 1/4 inch from the end. The permanent scale on the piston barrel reads approximate unconfined compressive strength in tons per square foot or kilograms per square centimeter. An indicator sleeve retains reading after piston is released. Spring is calibrated and plated for rust resistance. Adapter Foot Attachment (sold separately) of 1 inch diameter has sixteen times the piston area, for soft soils. Features:

  • 1/4” (6.4mm) diameter loading piston
  • Permanent scale on piston barrel
  • Reads in tons/ft2 & kg/cm2
  • Indicator sleeve retains reading after piston is released.
  • Spring is calibrated and plated for rust resistance.
  • Carrying Case
  • Weight: 2 oz.
  • Diameter: ¾”
  • Length: 6”
